Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how the City Hide & Seek mobile application ("the App", "we", "us", or "our") handles your information. By using the App you agree to the practices described here.

City Hide & Seek is a two-phone, real-world hide-and-seek game played across a city. Because the game is based on (and the core mechanic is) physical location, the App uses your device's location to make gameplay work.

1. Information we collect

We deliberately collect as little as possible. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, contacts, or photos, and we do not require you to create an account with personal details.

a) Location data (approximate and precise)

When you play a real multiplayer game, the App collects your device's location (GPS) to run the game — for example, to answer "radar" distance questions, the measuring-stick feature, and to show the Seeker's live position to the Hider. Depending on the permission you grant, this may be precise or approximate location.

b) Anonymous identifier

To connect the two players in a game, the App signs you in anonymously using Firebase Anonymous Authentication. This assigns a random, app-generated ID to your device. It is not linked to your name, email, or Google account, and we cannot use it to identify you personally.

c) Gameplay data

We process the data needed to run a game session — for example the game code, the chosen play area, the questions asked and answered, cards drawn/played, and timers.

d) Subscription status

City Hide & Seek offers an optional premium subscription, sold through Google Play's billing system. We do not collect or store your payment details (card numbers, billing address, etc.) — these are handled entirely by Google Play. We only receive whether your subscription is active, in order to unlock the paid features.

What we do not collect: we do not use advertising, we do not use third-party analytics or tracking SDKs, and we do not sell your data.

Sandbox mode: the free, single-player Sandbox practice mode runs locally on your device and does not transmit your location to us.

2. How we use your information

We use the information above only to:

• run a multiplayer game session and its location-based features;
• connect you with the other player using a game code;
• determine whether your premium subscription is active;
• keep the game functioning reliably.

We use it for app functionality only. We do not use it for advertising or profiling.

3. How your information is shared

• With the other player in your game. This is core to the game: during a match, your live location and your answers are shared with the other player in that same game session so the game can work. It is not shared with anyone outside your game.
• With our service providers (acting on our behalf):
  • Google Firebase (Authentication and Realtime Database) — stores game and location data so both players' devices stay in sync. See Google's Privacy Policy: policies.google.com/privacy
  • Google Maps (used to display the map) — see policies.google.com/privacy
  • Google Play Billing — processes subscription payments. We never see your card details.
• We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.

4. How long we keep your data

• Game and location data is automatically deleted from our servers within 48 hours of a game being created, by an automated scheduled cleanup. We keep it only as long as needed to play and shortly after.
• Your anonymous identifier stays on your device until you clear the App's data or uninstall the App.
• Subscription status is managed by Google Play according to your subscription.

5. How we protect your data

• All data is encrypted in transit using industry-standard HTTPS/TLS.
• Access to a game's location data is restricted by server security rules so that only the participants in that game can read it.

No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

6. Your choices and rights

• Location permission. Location is required to play a real game. You can grant or deny it at any time in your device settings. If you deny it, you can still use Sandbox mode and read How to Play, but you will not be able to play a live multiplayer game.
• Deleting your data. Your game data is deleted automatically within 48 hours. You can also remove data sooner by ending or leaving a game, or by clearing the App's data / uninstalling the App. To request deletion of any data associated with your device, contact us at hello@haasiegames.com — because identities are anonymous, please contact us within a reasonable time so we can locate the relevant game data before it is auto-deleted.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the South African Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) or the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right to access, correct, or delete personal data. You can exercise these by contacting us at the email above.

7. Children's privacy

City Hide & Seek involves movement around a city and is intended for a general audience old enough to play responsibly. Where the game is played while driving, the driver must hold a valid driving licence, and a passenger should control the app. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with data, contact us and we will delete it.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. Significant changes may be communicated within the App.
